Last month we did not reach quorum, so there was no HOA meeting.
Block Party
Angela designed the block party flyer and had it printed; will send receipt to Anna for reimbursement. Kristina and Connor distributed the flyers around the neighborhood.
No real buzz about the event, so it was suggested we make a FB post and a FB event for the party, as well as put the event on the website and have an email blast sent out.
The food truck will be in at 4pm. Kristina will bring trash bags; someone also mentioned pop-up bins. Anna noted that there are bins, liners, tables, and tablecloths in the shed. Angela will get the caution tape to Kristina so we can cordon off yard boundaries during the event. Kristina also has a chalkboard for outlining party ground rules, a couple of yard games, music, and a fire pit. Connor volunteered to get a couple cases of water and s’more supplies.
Set up will be at noon on the day of the event, and breakdown will likely be around 8pm, since that is when the food truck leaves.
Treasurer’s Report
- Major expense: playground. Second half paid (13k).
- Dues notice has gone out; 50 already processed. Anna will also send out paper notices and will reimburse herself for the envelopes.
- Block Party: Angela will send receipt for flyers, and Connor will send receipt for supplies.
- Note: still need documentation for playground expenses for records.
Playground
- Kristina and Connor are working on the mulch situation. First contractor quote is around 8k. Same contractor quoted about 35k (!) for plastic filler.
- Connor mentioned a landscaping company that may be able to do it, can get a quote and some kind of written offer soon. Also mentioned an individual that could do it for about 7k, but we need that in writing as well.
- Aiming to have three mulch offers in hand by next week so we can make a decision—would like it done before the block party.
- Two volunteers came forward on FB and offered help; for now, they are monitoring trash cans and doing ad-hoc help as needed.
- Connor asked about maintenance in public areas; we confirmed the contract says service should be every 7-10 days, so Connor will contact the company and make sure the service is in line with the contract.
Adopt-a-Highway
- Fairfax County did a big cleanup recently, so Kristina will revisit soliciting help in the next couple of months.
Street Signs
- Jim still needs to meet with the county contact and will update us with his recommendation after the meeting/at the next HOA meeting.
Wooded Pathway
- Connor contacted the scouts about some extra help and they indicated the timing was not right, so he would like volunteers to help. Some spots may be iffy and will need some funding for lumber or stones to make steps/crossways.
- Connor will come up with some language and Angela will make a visual and post on FB to generate volunteers for the project.
- Connor agreed to document the process and we will show progress at the next annual meeting.
Tickets
- 37 tickets in backlog. We worked through a bunch and closed old ones from ’21 and ’22.
- Voted to allow one person to get an estimate about tree removal.
- Responded to a couple of tickets about upkeep.
- Agreed to write responses to a few more of the most recent ones that had not been responded to.
Misc.
- Meeting on Tuesday May 28, 7pm, John Marshall Library about the future of the old Franconia Government Center. A couple of HOA members will try to attend.
- Newsletter woes: generated some ideas for articles and outreach to help.
Adjourned at 8:47pm.
