Common Grounds

Submitted via email:

  • I connected with Bert over at All Recreation and got two quotes: one for mulch replenishment and one for a pair of new trash cans. I went with the more premium can option to help continue elevating the overall feel of the park. Both quotes are attached for your review.
  • I also touched base with our landscaping team about the shrub trimming along the path and the steps for the nature trail. The shrubs should be getting cleaned up soon. Our rep is planning to come out within the next week to take another look at the trail entrance and put together an updated estimate for the steps. Budget permitting after the trash cans, I’d like to move forward with that project.

Comes out to roughly 5.8k for the two proposals. Agreed to email and see if it falls in the budget—will move forward if it is.

Also submitted for Board consideration: would we be interested in having a swamp white oak from the county planted in the park? All agreed this was a good idea and will move forward with planting the tree.

Discussed putting a No Motorized Vehicles sign at the entrance to the trail.

Active Items

  • Car ran into a sign at the front of the neighborhood; will contact someone at VDOT to remedy. Kerri filled out and sent the necessary form.
  • Block Party (May 30th)
    • Kristina sent a list of prospective food trucks out before the meeting
    • Atlantic BBQ is the ideal because it is no deposit, no minimum; Flavor Express is also ideal because it has a low deposit that is returned the day of the event and there is no minimum—will investigate reviews of both
    • Dessert trucks have high spend minimum; maybe go with Rita’s again—will explore more options
    • Don’t know about doing flyers again? Are they helpful? Others volunteered to divide and conquer passing them out
      • Angela will make them again, considering the lessons learned from last year (1 week deadline) Will hand out first week of May.
      • BYOB, Kid activities, food truck, QR code, s’mores, bring a chair, etc.
    • Kristina will replenish the kiddie activities, will get a volunteer to get the s’mores closer to the time
  • Yard Sale is coming up, and there is no place to put the sign—perhaps ask someone with a fence (i.e., the one on Moon Rock) to hang the sign on. Alternatively, we could make some signs and laminate them. Kristina will email Christian and ask him to reach out to the people on Moon Rock. Will also contact the people that live on the corner of S. King’s and Vantage.
  • Newsletter has not gone out due to lack of articles from Treasurer and Common Grounds committees; Kristina will email them to get the needed entries so it can be complied and published as soon as possible.
